This Phi Phi island tour by speedboat takes you from Phuket to the Phi Phi archipelago and back in one full day. You’ll swim in Pileh Lagoon, snorkel around Monkey Beach and Viking Cave, stop at Maya Bay, and finish with a quiet stretch of sand at Zcoco Beach. A speedboat covers the open water fast, which leaves more of the day for the islands themselves.
The crossing from Leam Nga to the first stop takes about an hour. A speedboat is fast and close to the water, so expect some spray and a few bumps, especially on windier days. Life jackets are available on board. Between stops the boat moves quickly, so most of your day goes to swimming, snorkeling and walking on the beaches instead of sitting in transit.
You get snorkeling time around Pileh Lagoon, Monkey Beach and Viking Cave, where the water is clear and the reefs are close to the surface. Gear is provided and your guide helps anyone who needs it. If you’d rather not snorkel, you can swim, relax on the beach or stay on the boat. For more reef spots around the island, see our guide to snorkeling in Phuket.
Maya Bay is a protected national park area, and the rules for visiting, including swimming and time on shore, are set by the park authorities and can change. Your guide explains the current rules on the day. The bay is usually closed for a recovery period in the low season, typically around August and September, and the itinerary is adjusted to nearby bays and viewpoints during that time.
The calmest seas on the Andaman side generally run from about November to April, with clear water and easier crossings. From May to October the monsoon brings rougher water and more rain, so the ride can be bumpier and the schedule may change for safety. If sea conditions are unsafe, the tour may be rescheduled, adjusted to a safer route, or refunded under the booking terms. For a wider view of the seasons, read our guide to good weather in Thailand.
Pack swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Add a waterproof bag for your phone and valuables, and some cash for drinks and tips. If you get seasick easily, take a motion-sickness tablet before departure.
It suits couples, friends, families and solo travelers who want to see several islands in one day without long ferry waits. To compare other islands before you decide, see our guide to the best islands close to Phuket. Children can join this family-friendly tour, and for infants or very young children we recommend contacting us before booking. The ride can be rough in choppy seas, so it’s not recommended for pregnant travelers or anyone with back problems.
This tour is a full-day speedboat trip that ends at Zcoco Beach. If you prefer a catamaran and Bamboo Island, see our Phi Phi and Bamboo Island by catamaran tour. For another departure option, see our Phi Phi tour from Phuket.
When and where does the tour end?
The boat returns to the pier at Leam Nga around 16:30, and hotel drop-off is by about 17:00.
Do you arrange pick up and drop off?
Yes, round-trip transfer from your Phuket hotel is included. If your hotel is far from the main tourist areas, contact us before booking so we can confirm the pickup.
Are there any extra fees to pay on the day?
The national park fee is included. Drinks, tips and personal expenses are not.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and a waterproof bag for your valuables. See the full list above.
Is swimming allowed at Maya Bay?
Park rules on swimming and time on shore at Maya Bay are set by the authorities and can change. Your guide will tell you what’s allowed on the day.
Is the tour suitable for non-swimmers?
Yes. You can enjoy the beaches, the viewpoints and the boat rides without swimming, and life jackets are available on board.
Will I get seasick on the speedboat?
It depends on the sea. Calmer months are easier, and a motion-sickness tablet helps if you’re sensitive. Sitting toward the middle of the boat usually reduces the bumps.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If conditions are unsafe, the tour may be rescheduled, adjusted to a safer route, or refunded under the booking terms. Contact us if you’re worried before your date.
Can I request vegetarian or other dietary meals?
Yes, let us know when you book and we’ll do our best to arrange it for the Phi Phi Don lunch.
Should I book in advance?
Yes, this is a popular day trip and it fills quickly in high season. Browse all our Phuket tours.
